I don't think the Larry and Andy Wachowski intended to crack childish jokes in the movie. Thats probably one of the reasons i liked it. It didn't try to be funny. Most films that try to be funny, I've found, in my opinion, are not. After all what is funny about being slaves to a populations of machines who have imprisoned your mind within the confines of a computer Program, just to use your body as fuel?

With Trilogies, i personally don't judge each film, comparing it to the others. I take the Trilogy as the story and judge it all together. I found the APU vs Sentinel Battle to be one of the best Peices of film i have ever seen in my life, and particularly loved how Captain Mahony fought to the death when confronted by an unmovable mass of sentinels.

It did have much more than explosions. Transformers doesn't appear to.

they could have done with a bit of humor. you want to know what's funny about mankind being enslaved by their machines? the whole concept, that's what. carrie anne moss' death scene felt tacked on, predictable and totally unnecessary. the fight scene between neo and the million agent smiths was just stupid. vampire and werewolf stories a result of rogue programs? whatever. it did have a lot more than explosions, it also had a pretentious air that i found totally off-putting. but hey, that's just my opinion.

It would be inappropriate to crack jokes during the second two Matrix films, but I also think the fact that it took itself so ridiculously serious is why I really don't have any desire to ever watch those films again. Different strokes for different folks, but I think most people would agree that Transformers should strive to be a film you want to see in the theatre 3-5 times. And it seems that's what a lot of people who have seen it intend to do.

Here's the thing.

You already know everything there is to know about this movie. You already know the characters, you already know Autobots & Decepticons, you already know the personalities, you already know the reason they are here, you already know where they came from, you already know how they got here, you already know their backstory, and you probably already know how everything's going to shake down. So if you're looking for more out of Transformers than everything that you already know, then yes you will be dissappointed in the same way you would have been if you already knew everything that was going to happen in The Matrix.

You can't compare a film adaptation of a franchise you've been following for 20 years to an original concept you didn't know anything about before seeing the film. For the guy or gal that doesn't know jack **** about Transformers, everything that happens in the film (that you already know) is going to be a lot to take in. The backstory, screentime, abilities, character and personalities of these robots is like nothing that's ever been done in an "alien invasion" film before. On that front, it's breaking major new ground, but none of us are going to notice, because we already know all that.

one stinkin review on the movie wont change my mind about seeing it. on rotten tomatoes, last time i checked it got 5 fresh tomatoe reviews (not rotten) all these reviews had their gripes about the movie but for what it was a movie about giant robots beating on each other they liked it for more than just that.

I called it. The first bad review ranters would parade it around like it was the final word on the film. Rotten Tomatoes is giving it an 82% fresh so far. But Im sure this means nothing. The final word on the film has been spoken.

Bwahahahahaha....psuedo philosophy at best. The Matrix was a movie based on a gimmick: what is the matrix? The fact that they used religious symbolism to try to enhance the plot shows how goofy it was. It was never meant to be taken seriously. It was just a fun popcorn movie that failed to deliver at the end.

So using symbolism is goofy? Some of the most respected writers in the world use techniques such as that, and i'm afraid you, Nelson, pale in comparison to them. It did not 'try to enhance the plot', It did. The Matrix kept making us the audience question. Much like the great Greek Philosophers did, some of the most intelligent men to walk the earth.

"I'm trying to free your mind, Nelson. But I can only show you the door. You're the one that has to walk through it."

Tell Us great and powerful Nelson how you would have ended that trilogy? Maybe with a musical montage sang entirely by yourself, about how fantastic it is to be able to suck up to Mr Michael Bay and get paid for it?

I was thinking the same thing. The Matrix was an americanized chop sockey flick with Bill S Preston esq. doing his best Jackie Chan on Hugo Weaving.

It like this movie is a popcorn movie. Sit down, shut up, turn the brain off, eat your popcorn and give us money.

I am not going to attack that part. That movie sells in this day and age. What I AM going on is mr. official-type guy telling me this movie is a better cinematic masterpiece than the Godfather with a straight face. Did you practice in the mirror saying this, or did you have to backspace from all the typos from laughing to yourself when you said "yeah, that'll wow em."

If I went too far, I appologize, but seriously what were you thinking when you typed that?

This movie is a flick for almost everyone in the mass market. For the guys we have explosions, millitary guys shooting guns, alien invasions, and Megan Fox to drool at. For the ladies, you have a sappy love story for your guy who will never see that part.

For the Autobot fans you have Peter Cullen. For the Decepticon fans, you have 2 things right now, and I would say them but I KNOW that would get me in trouble. Think Army of Darkness.

Those writers you mention did it with intelligence and tact. They did not overuse to ad naseum.

I've would ended it with Journey sing "Don't stop Believing." Because that would've been aperfect end to the Oracles' last words.

I like it that you use a claim of which you have no proof of to try and insult me. If there was someone fighting to be an over-achiever in stupidity, you fit the bill.

Go watch the movie first.

A hater like you should really stop pulling BS from thin air.

I never compared the two.

What I did say was that it the tone and the majesty of the monatge reminded me of the montage in the first GF movie.

Before talking out of your a s s, you should study film and perhaps learn what a montage is. Here's some help.

Default Total Retard!

the guy who wrote that review is a TOTAL RETARD.

it's obvious from reading that review the guy was dropped on his head a few times after child birth. or maybe he was neglected by his parents and always dropped off at child care when he was a toddler. or maybe kids used to make fun of his glasses back in elementary school. or he was always the kid to be picked last in anything. whatever history he had.. he has a major carrot up his a$$ and some sort of major bitterness to this movie, GM, Hasbro, .

I think he wasn't given an advanced viewing with all the A grade journalists and was bitter about that. Or maybe during his adolescent years the one girl he wanted went out with the guy with a GM. He never got Hasbro transformers toys as a kid cause only the cool kids had them, and he was stuck with rubber bands to play with.

seriously, this guy seems to have a MAJOR chip on his shoulder. he's not even reviewing the movie, rather picking all the bits which brought back his worst childhood memories....

Default critic reviews - possible spoilers. read at own risk.

On AICN. You'll find two talkbackers. Yackbacker and Messi who were brutally vocal against this movie(Messi was especially brutally vocal against Bay) give pretty positive yet critical reviews.

Someone on Rotten Tomatoes linked a rotten review to the transformers and its not about the transformers movie. Otherwise its 11 fresh, 2 rotten from the critics....

Yes, what about the ACTUAL finale to the movie. What so the movie ultimately didn't deliver because there was not a fitting song after the Oracles last words?

Yes the CGI is good, but that does not make it a good movie.

Default A Good Review

Critics like the film, too. "Michael Bay's actioner hits a new peak for CGI (computer generated images) work, showcasing spectacular chases and animated transformation sequences seamlessly blended into live-action surroundings," wrote Todd McCarthy in show business newspaper "Daily Variety."

The reviewer is perfectly entitled to his opinion. Does it really matter? So far the reviews are almost totally positive and the movie is poised to rake in tons o' cash. Who cares about one or two bad reviews? Did I miss when movie critics suddenly became relevent?

I stand by my last statement.
I'm guessing that's a resounding no.

I never compared the two.

What I did say was that it the tone and the majesty of the monatge reminded me of the montage in the first GF movie.

Before talking out of your a s s, you should study film and perhaps learn what a montage is. Here's some help.
My appologies for getting it wrong. You didn't say what I thought. Bad Deceptitech.*slaps wrists*

However, any comparison you make with this load and The Godfather still generates laughter(even if it does remind you of that movie, it's still funny). I'm not saying the montage is cruddy, just you're picking the wrong movie to compare it with.

Since when do most ravers count someone who has a differing opinion as a valid one?

Is this the smartes film I have seen? No

Best action movie? Def Yes!

I loved this movie, I had high expectations and they where all delivered.
The story isnt the best, but I think this movie will do great as a triology, with more story in the next ones. Im really looking forward to more transformers in the future

Exclamation Ebert gives 3 out of 4 stars

SPOILERS AHEAD:

He liked the film. There was an appreciation of its self-awareness and the awkward teenage boy stuff. He liked the comedy and loved the special effects, BUT... There's always a "but!" lol Overall, a good review of the film. If you want to go in with an unbiased opinion, wait to check this out until after you've seen it.

That's an easy mistake to make, considering he's as far away from the fandom as humanly possible. It could've been worse, it could have been "the battle between the Megatrons and the Optimuses"

The board is going to explode with "My review" posts, even though there's a stickied topic for them. I think it'll be a no-mans land until around august 6th

Well, it;s like the ravers always say, it;s not like critics really know anything, so we can all make fun of this one.

His one complaint was that there was way too much robot action.

I think the raver protocol only counts towards reviews that cite unfaithfulness to G1 as the principle negative aspect. At least that's what I think the handbook says. I don't know, I only joined for the dental insurance.
