though I'm (slightly) excited about new rumble/frenzy figures, I'd be more excited by a proper updated soundwave. The reissued G1 version wasn't that easy to get hold of.

Maybe, but the Hasbro design team has mentioned that Soundwave is on their shortlist for a new mold in the Universe line when it comes back. He and Rhinox.

compatibility is a bit of a dodgy subject re: universe ravage. Several reviews claim he fits the reissue version (with the double depth door) but doesn't fit the original soundwave. I don't have either so I can't confirm that, and sincerely hope they have mistransformed their ravages.

it would be useful to note however, that the rear section of universe hound fits ravage snuggly, so maybe these will fit too.

I have the soundblaster-mould-soundwave-reissue from TRU a couple years ago, I know Ravage fits in there, but i've never tried putting old ravage or laserbeak on hound's back seat yet, shouldnt be hard to do later though, but I dont know about the original one (i know its a smaller chest) one way to find out of course...TO EBAY!!!!

I have the book-style reissue Soundwave from Japan that they released 5 years ago. He is a single-cassette depth door mold (the hinge, though, is different from the original Soundwave), but he should be decent proxy for the original.

okay, here's an update, I got home, and turned the 80's ravage and universe ravage to tape modes, they both fit in his double chest holdal, so that should mean that universe version can fit in the single deck version too...if you transform him correctly

Here's the latest on the new cartoon, according to the Allspark:

In an interview with Moonbase 2, Michael Bell has revealed the first information about the next Transformers cartoon. Key bits of information include:

• Sue Blue is casting
• Michael Bell auditioned for Ratchet, as well as a character under the name "General Fowler"
• David Sobolov (you may know him as Beast Wars' Depth Charge) was also among the auditions.

sounds like it could be similar to a few other toy lines I've been reading up on.

Zoids had "interchangeable" power core components in the last range to hit america and japan. the idea was that you built up your own custom zoids, could be something similar.

R.E.V. figures featured a similar system where by you added car components to a robot body and then transformed it to vehicle form, but the parts could be swapped to create custom cars.

I also believe it could be an Armada style linking system with robots joining together to form larger robots. but perhaps in a way we haven't previous seen from a Hasbro design.

Personally, I'm hoping for a Minicon/Powermaster fusion toyline.

I'm wondering though, could it be like the brainmasters? where the mini robot integrated into the larger robot shell, and then (in the case of Star Sabre) combined with yet more stuff to become even bigger?

Could have a team of say six scout sized figures that you buy delux and voyager class sets to expand their powers up to leader class size or greater.

But I'm guessing it's a pretender style thing where the outer shell can transform. The robot inside just unlocks some extra mode while combined with the shell.

Could be, but I'd wager that if it were true then the mini-robot would also have its own alt-mode. There aren't too many Transformers bots these days that don't transform in some way...the only one being Alpha-Q in Energon of late.

could you imagine that, a minicon that combines up in some way to form a scout, then combines again to form a delux, then again to form a voyager and just keeps getting bigger and bigger the more sets you get....

My original thought was that the larger figures would act more like suits of armour. I agree it seems unlikely the little bot wouldn't have some token alt mode, maybe something futuristic or a stylised animal alt as that can usually be done fairly easily and keep a similar locking mechanism for variants.

I do too. But, imagine if Optimus had been scout class, who then upgrades with Ultra Magnus into a "powered form", who then uses Omega Supreme to armor up yet again ON TOP of the "powered form"...THAT would kick serious arse!!

I think it's the packaging. If someone were to say this was Classics/Universe Huffer, I'd probably believe them.

it's being reported elsewhere (that link by the way doesn't confirm this so take with a pinch of salt) that the figure will feature a "universal linking mechanism" this will allow combinations of figures with the power core logo to combine to form larger robot forms, the "peg" in the chest is being given as evidence that this is true (it does look a little like the chest on G1 blast off I have to admit)

could we have guessed correctly that this is a new incarnation of the "special teams" incorporating elements of Armada?

will dig out appropriate quote as more evidence appears.

Yeah, the whole "combining gimmick" rumor was strated by "Patrick Stewart". He was a poster on the OLD TF boards before they fractured apart and went their seperate ways. The guy was full of s*it then and probably is now.

besides the ultimate linkage concept isn't new, mugenbine from Bandai is the exact same concept. plus it was the main "gimmick" in my own fan fic (Ominite Crisis).

I really really hope there is some truth to it, and since the patent is genuine, maybe hasbro are planning something gestaulty in nature, but a 32 piece combiner sounds far fetched (especially from hasbro) maybe as a fan made kit bash.

Indeed, but I'm going to find it hard to believe that Hasbro would do that too.

There's also the chance that the little connection piece we think is part of Huffer's chest may simply be a deployable hard-point for his TM Mini-Con.

so this power-core element is literally just a retake on the breast-masters concept with the minicon forming a chest-plate. with a target master/power master element thrown in too.

I like the idea of the minicons combining to do more than just unlock a missile or some lame battle mode, I also like the idea of them having a "third" mode, those were always my favourite minicons when they were first released.

I'm only slightly disappointed the larger bots don't combine with each other, just the minicons, but if it turns out the minicons are interchangeable that could be pretty cool too.

not going to happen, unless this is a sub-line of classics or whatever. If this is an entirely new toy range, maybe even tied into a new tv show, you can bet the leader class figures will be Prime and Megs, possibly using TWO minicons rather than one.

Oh, I know that. But the Decepticon IS mentioned as a "Commander" on his packaging. Considering the packaging, I'm guessing this line is a sub-line to be released later this year anyhow.
