It's a piece of crap. If you check the 'new transformer thread', I explained just how much it sucks. If you can get it to stand, the hands and feet still look stupid. If you still want it, you can order a fan upgrade-forarms and feet.

I regret wasting my money on it

I like it, but yeah, it's Universe Superion (Energon Superion repainted in somewhat G1-ish colors) repackaged in Movie styling.

i don't see the problem, I like that figure (except for the hands) and welcome a second chance to get hold of it, Hasbro have been putting A LOT of what should have been universe repaints into ROTF packaging most likely because they expected anything movie related to sell better.

What amazes me is that anyone has only just realised it existed, I saw it on shelves over here well before Christmas and that usually means the States had it six months ago.

Considering you brought up an old rumor regarding a certain Masterpiece figure that's since been debunked, it's a bit calling the kettle black.

I wouldnt call anything yet about Devastator. If you check most rumors about MP-09,the only one that get people excited is about Dev.The others are about "Rodimus","Galvatron" and "Jetfire",so nothing to get excited about. The day MP-09 will be confirmed ,we'll see if it was true or not.

The fake Takara announcement was and i know it,but it doesn't discard the possibility of being close to the truth. The figure may not be as big and may be sold as a set,but the possibility is still there.

My top 3 predictions:

1. Rodimus Convoy (considering Japan's penchant for Convoy's, this would almost be a no-brainer and it would most likely find it's way to the States for extended use of the mold)

2. Victory Saber (in scale with the original Victory version, but with improved engineering for more dynamic range and die-cast), would probably be released as MP-09 Star Saber, MP-10 Victory Lio, and MP-11 Victory Saber 2-pk...and we probably wouldn't see this in the States.

3. Shockwave...a bit of a dark horse, but as long as the designs can be cleared and still look mostly like him, this would fill a rather large hole many folks have in their collection, considering the original mold will probably never see a reissue.

A potential surprise might also be Chromedome. He briefly led the Autobots in Headmasters and would appeal to those who would like to see a better articulated version of the toy while providing a Headmaster that would be larger than a mere accessory to the bigger bot.

I'd put money on Rodimus too, it was a high profile character in both the Japanese G1 series and the US one, it would be worthwhile investing money in. But I think they are targeting the popular characters. I'm not sure which were the REALLY popular ones in Japan? Star Sabre and Chromedome would definitely fit the bill.

I know it's a bit out there for a MP, but how about some of the cars? Jaz, Prowl, Red Alert, Tracks, Smokescreen, Bumblebee? what are the odds they might attempt those as MPs?

Since MP gestalts are highly unlikely due to the cost of development, would that also invalidate the triple changers? as seriously I've not been willing to shell out for any (with the possible exception of Prime) so far, but Blitzwing and Springer might raise my interest.

BB might happen, but my impression has been that Alternators/Binaltech/Alternity has kinda been the outlet for those characters.

Not sure why it would. You're not paying for seperate complex components like you would a gestalt. My question is just how profile a character like Astrotrain would be deemed to be when considering how much you'd be paying to buy him. Would YOU pay $110 for a 12" Astrotrain?

personally no, but then again I didn't own an Astrotrain back in 1985, so there is no nostalgia for the character for me.

I'm really not sure he would be popular enough. He was more loved in Japan than in the U.S. and half the fans hate him because of the way he was introduced in the movie.

He's the only one i would consider buying.A bore in G1 ,but a bada$$ rogue in the comic books and all other incarnations.

remember that Masterpiece is Takara based, so it would go by Japanese popularity, and they do like Star Saber etc over there

You're forgetting that Masterpieces are dictated by Japanese tastes, not ours. Hasbro doesn't participate much in the design or concept of Masterpieces. The fact we saw releases of Optimus, Starscream and Skywarp in the States are nothing short of a miracle as they defy conventional retail sensibilities. Both Rodimus and Victory Saber would be on TakaraTomy's shortlist of MP candidates, though, which is why I listed them.

Quote:

He'd definitely have a little more international appeal, if that's even a concern to Takratomy. You'd think it was, but alot of their decisions generally seem to be "Japan will do what's best for Japan" (which is why we ended up with the lackluster Unicron Trilogy cartoons).

Quote:

Which is why I listed him as a dark horse candidate. More likely would be a an Alternity figure based on his color scheme and minus the Headmaster gimmick, but with the success of the Macross Masterpiece figures and the potential cross-appeal into other Japan brands...you just might never know. Either way, he'd be alot more cost-effective than a gestalt like Devastator.

I just like having ANY commanders other than Prime and Megatron. The two factions are armies, there'd be other generals and captains than all orders coming over and over again from the same two leaders.

that's what I liked about IDW (before the AHM incident) where they had small teams on various planets with a commander for each team, like Prowl on Earth

It's also why I liked Animated. Optimus was just the equivalent of a Field Major as opposed to the Supreme Leader.

And in a few comic book adaptation Grimlock outrank Rodimus, instead of being the big dumb one.

And hope Takara has the project of doing a REAL Ultra Magnus.

Furman prefers to write Grimlock as a savvy battle commander with a speech impediment.

That would, unfortuantely, be a $200 figure due to the cost of the base figure plus the trailer. Someone tried to make a fan-project trailer for MP-02, but failed because it couldn't support the die-cast weight of the interior robot. Better to hope for a Classics Ultra Magnus that's true to its G1 roots....or just get Classics Magnus and the City Commander armor as I did.

I think it more likely there would be an update of Ultra Magnus as a leader class figure for the Classics range than a full masterpiece version with trailer. I know that some people would pay $200+ to get one, but not enough I suspect to make back the money needed to design and make them.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we're getting a UM in the range of upcoming toys for 2010. Kind of a shame, too....he'll probably just end up being a white WfC OP repaint.

Yup. UM being a white Prime isn't Dreamwave's fault, it's Hasbro's.

Well, Animated gave him his own mold, so I wouldn't say that. It seems Hasbro thinks of both "looks" as valid and are willing to portray him as either/or, depending on what's available at the time. If resources are allocated to a new mold, we get the more iconic Magnus look (Animated, Titanium). If there aren't, and Hasbro needs a quick exclusive, we get a Prime repaint (Classics Magnus, Universe 1.0 Magnus). Personally, I like both. But I don't see HAsbro bothering to make a new mold for WfC, so he'll probably just be a white Prime this go-around.

Also RiD and Armada/Energon gave him an non-optimus mold, and his appearances in IDW havent hinted to him being "Optimus in a suit" so they have that too

Meh. He was a repaint nonetheless. The cool thing, though, was that you could hook Energon Magnus up as a trailer to BnaB U1.0 Magnus for a "full Magnus" mode. Granted, he couldn't don the trailer as armor, but you could still use it as a fan-mode anti-aircraft gun emplacement. Plus, the two Minicons act as Targetmasters.

well there have been a couple of exceptions to the white OP rule, RID, Energon and Animated all had a specifically different mould from Prime.

I think overall it's been about 50:50 if UM has been a prime repaint or not.

Again, it's all about resource choices and marketing. If Magnus isn't planned to be in the mainline, Hasbro will usually just repaint something into him because he's a popular enough character to warrant a figure most of the time, even if he's not planned for mass retail. Those are the times we usually get white Primes.

Needs modification to be Jetfire. Such as an angular nose cone instead of a conical one. And the face is completely off.

not to the toy version it isn't. That is the exact same mould. remember that Marvel had to change the appearance of the cartoon version as it was intended to be screened in Japan where the patent/copyright on the figure was held by Bandai not Takara.
