I'm getting the feeling that possibly the design choices are based on the personal favourites of the designers and not related to what collector may be interested in.

I'd love to see an update of RID Megatron for instance. But this could also be the opportunity to finally give some characters a figure that never had one, such as that plant in Beast Machines, or the fembots from G1 season 2.
there are some updates on older toys, but mostly in homage form or something, like in the ROTF line theres Bludgeon, Mindwipe and a couple of Stunticons, as well as a blokey called Fearswoop who uses Hooligan's colours

Plus Botcon gets loads of repaints in homage to cyberjets and stuff

Botcon at least has been giving me a bit of a pre-G2 fix.

As for the RotF homages, when they're being applied to "movie-style molds" I'm less inclined to dig them. Dirge is the only one that kind of calls to me, despite having a superior Botcon Dirge.

although, Hasbro did say that Bludgeon (and probably Mindwipe by extension) were originally designed for Universe

meh exclusive figures give me migraines. I would never pay more than the original price for a repaint. Some of these convention figures are more than double the original price.

I want them in ordinary stores at ordinary prices!

Not quite...they were designed with Universe in mind and then modified to fit the movie asthetic. Like we're supposed to grateful for spindly looking limbs.

I do too, but the reality is that those are figures that Hasbro doesn't believe would sell that well at mass retail, so they're made at limited quantities as exclusives. In that mind, we should probably be grateful we have the opprotunity to get them at all.

The pricing is high because, while producing a figure from a mold costs just as much to do as any other normal retail figure, you're only doing a couple thousand of them. So, in order to pay for the fact you aren't going to be selling as many figures in order to break even on the use of the mold-to-toy process, you have to increase the price to make up the difference. Add in the fact that the Club wants to make a profit at a margin that's probably higher than WalMart needs, you end up with a very pricey repaint. At least remolds/tools can sweeten the deal a bit...

Wow. Just walked into Toys R Us looking for Dinobot (thought I'd give him a try) and noticed two new figure.

25th anniversary rerelease of Perceptor and Insecticon 3 pack.

Walked out with both of them. Not bad. Perceptor could use better shoulders, and maybe a twisty waist. But he's really a whole lot better than most G1 figures. And the insecticons, for the amount of joints they have? Not bad. Not perfect. But if they could be retooled to have a few extra better joints, they'd be great for the Classics line.

I had no idea Perceptor was a triple changer. A tank mode?

My son got that for his 5th birthday. It's actually a pretty decent size.

Anyhow, bought RotF on Blu-Ray last night, the Wal-MArt version with the IMAX scenes.

strange I was dreaming about gobots the other night. I have this recurring dream about a shop in my parents home town (which no longer exists) which stocked some toys, I got most of my Star Wars, Zoids and Transformers from there. But never Gobots as seriously I thought at the time they looked "naf", but in hind sight I really wanted a leader one, oh well, my subconscious still wants one even though I've grown out of them.

If you can find them for cheap, Gobots can be quite good fun.

actually from the alt mode I immediately thought Prowl for Hans-cuff. What did strike me as odd was when you said "two versions", every link I found for Gobots says there aren't any variants for Hans-cuff.

Well I have one that is mostly white with a black line down the bottom, and one that has a black hood and boot. I think one might be a custom job maybe I dunno lol

http://www.toyarchive.com/Gobots/Reg...tml#variations

seems TRU.com need to amend their listing, according to Toyarchive.com there are "variants" but it doesn't list what they are. Seems each country coloured it slightly differently and the standard version (pictured in the link) was the North American version.

Variations: Many countries produced Hans-Cuff in various colors. Colors ranged from Buue, Red, and Yellow.
they also need a spell checker lol

I have that version, and I would guess the UK variant too

MP Skywarp is $50 in Canada, unless you're referring to the Japanese version.

Just got my USB Ravage!
Only 2Gb of memory on it, but it also comes with a desktop defender. Just Ravage walking around the screen, roaring and occasionally transforming. Just installed it

ooh, I just figured out how to make him transform and eat icons and stuff! hehe, fun

Found him too, but decided to opt for a Cobra Surv. Port instead. I'm looking to build a Cobra Outpost Fallout 3 style.

Yup. It's just Armada Unicron repackaged. The cool thing about it is that it validates my decision to put him on my Classics shelf.

It came last Friday. It's almost everything it was hyped up to be. Since everyone knows how awesome it looks (makes your Classics Ultra Magnus look like a proper UM), I'll point out the nitpicky flaws...

1. The waist belt doesn't like to stay on. There's nothing really to clip onto, so it just hangs on by resistance...not my preferred method of attaching stuff.

2. The "pins" they use for joints are plastic vinyl, I think, which makes me wonder if the joints will last.

3. The mold is obviously beginning to suffer from reuse. Some joints are too loose and the hole where you're supposed to attach the Shotgun of Justice to the back of his sholder is too wide for the peg, making it useless.

None of these are deal breakers and I still recommend the City Commander armor if it can be had within your budget ($88.99+shipping most places).
